Choosing a hydrogel eye mask: start with the shape, then the formula

When developing a hydrogel eye mask for a brand, the formula is not the only starting point. The eye-area contour, gel thickness, flexibility and packaging all affect how the product feels when a consumer first picks it up and applies it.

First, decide which part of the eye area you want to cover. Crescent, butterfly and combined shapes differ in coverage and appearance. Physical samples are useful for comparing fit and comfort during wear.

Next, compare the gel system and surface finish. Colour, transparency, thickness and cooling feel can create noticeable differences, but the final specifications should follow the samples and documents agreed by both parties.

Finally, assess the weight per piece, packaging format, expected quantity and target market together. This brings the sample direction closer to the intended launch and can reduce repeated adjustments later.
